There’s something magical about love stories set in the redwoods. When Tara and Derrick reached out about their engagement session, they knew they wanted a location that felt intimate and full of natural beauty. I found the perfect trail in Joaquin Miller Park, where the light filtered through the redwoods in such a beautiful way, creating a lovely setting for my couple’s photoshoot.
From the moment we arrived at the redwoods, I could tell that Tara and Derrick were completely in their element. Their love for each other was effortless, shining through in every glance and laugh they shared. Tara and Derrick looked stunning, but what truly caught my eye were Tara’s adorable purple heels – those shoes were the perfect representation of her fun and vibrant energy.
One of my favorite things about photographing couples is capturing those candid, in-between moments – the laughter, the soft smiles, the unplanned bursts of joy. Tara and Derrick made my job easy. Whether I had them slow dance in the middle of the forest, walk hand in hand along a sun-dappled path, or share a quiet embrace, their connection was so genuine.
Engagement sessions are about more than just pretty pictures – they’re about celebrating the love that brought two people together. Tara and Derrick’s photoshoot was a reminder of why I love what I do. I know that their love will only continue to grow – just like the towering redwoods that surrounded them that day.
If you’re dreaming of an engagement session that feels like an adventure, let’s make it happen! The redwoods (or any stunning nature spot) is waiting to tell another love story.

Tara’s purple heels were iconic – I had to make sure that I captured them and gave them their moment!

Kind Words from Tara:
“Shannon was wonderful to work with from start to finish. We had an initial call to help set the stage for the photoshoot and what to expect. The actual shoot was so much fun! Shannon is not just a talented photographer, but also great at helping us feel relaxed and comfortable during the process. Afterwards she had the photos edited and ready on time, and we loved the way they turned out. I would definitely recommend Shannon!”
